MACHINE LEARNING W/ SPORTS FOR ADOLESCENT EDUCATION (2019)
Abstract
The concept of Machine Learning (ML) can already be seen in every facet of STEM; slowly, it has begun to gain traction in other fields, like financial consulting and the automotive industry. Because of this increase in popularity, the value found in understanding Machine Learning concepts has grown exponentially; however, currently, only those with complex knowledge in Computer Science and Mathematics have enough comprehension to venture into the idea of Machine Learning. An even larger disparity in understanding ML can be seen amongst those in underserved populations, like women, people of color, and those of economically disadvantaged status; therefore, this study aims to achieve two goals: introduce Machine Learning concepts to students with little to no programming or Computer Science experience/background, and develop interest of those not traditionally involved in the science of Machine Learning by combining its fundamentals in Mathematics and Computer Science with something less benign and more mainstream (i.e. sports).
